New marinas are planned for Western Australia to provide berths in an area where finding a mooring is becoming increasingly difficult. The new marinas will all be along the coastal vicinity of Perth, the capital of Western Australia, from Yanchep south to Rockingham.
A study by the Department of Planning and Infrastructure found that between 2007 and 2025 tne number of marina berths needed will almost double from the 48,000 in 2007. At present only one marina is under way which is Port Coogee close to Perth. Some of the other marinas in the pipeline are Ocean Reef, Woodman Point, Hilary's and Rosewood Grove Marinas which will provide another 2500 berths.
The marinas as well as providing facilities and moorings for yachts will also provide residential property, hotels, retail outlets, sheltered beaches bars and restaurants.
