Dartmouth Royal Regatta week is under way and the Bank Holiday weekend is expected to bring a bumper crowd to swell the numbers of locals and those there for the whole week. As the organiser say "it's probably the best FREE event in the south west of England.
The races are organised by the Royal Dart and Dartmouth Yacht Club, headquarters for the event being based at the Royal Dart Yacht Club at Kingswear.
Racing is taking place mainly in Start Bay. Over 200 craft of different sizes, from yachts to dinghies competing in all classes of events. Rowing events will be held on the dart river. Again this years air display programme promise's to be action packed, with a mixture of fixed wing and rotary aircraft as well as vintage machines, together with Parachutist's. There will also be an RAF Typhoon on display in Coronation Park throughout the Regatta .
The Cruise Liner AZAMARA JOURNEY on her first visit to Dartmouth at 593 feet long will be the largest Cruise Ship ever to moor in the River Dart.
