The RNLI rescued 14 vikings after difficult weather conditions threatened to drag their traditional longboat out to sea.
The Ardglass Vikings, a charity organisation based in Ireland, were staging a raid on the seaside town of Leven, near Fife, as part of Medieval celebrations.
The crew rowed their 35ft wooden longboat out to sea but when they tried to return strong winds and a heavy swell caused them to drift further away from the shore.
Volunteers from the Anstruther and Kinghorn lifeboat stations reached the vikings in 30 minutes and worked together to tow them into Methil Docks.
"It was a little like we had stepped back in time as we approached this vessel and its crew who were dressed in Viking clothing," said Anstruther Coxswain Michael Bruce.
"Once again the robust, tried-and-tested training that the RNLI provides for its volunteers was to the fore, allowing us to combine our resources and expertise together with the crew from Kinghorn and bring this difficult situation to a swift and positive conclusion.

25 years old, Hythe Marina Village was the first marina development of its kind in the UK, and offered a berth for your boat and a waterside property on the western shore of Southampton Water, since then many rundown docksides all over Britain have copied the idea.
Since the first properties went on to the market in 1985 Hythe Marina Village has grown and now includes more than 200 berths and 220 waterside homes, with many residents keeping a boat on the berth connected to their houses.
The marina is marking its 25th anniversary with a free weekend of music, food and celebration from 18th - 19th September 2010. Hythe Marina Village is now managed MDL Marinas
World Marine Guide has information on Southanpton and more marinas on the south coast of the United Kingdom.

The appeal of Playa Blanca on the Canarian Island of Lanzarote has diminished slightly since the advent of Marina Rubicon which is just a mile or so across the bay. Because of all the facilities that Marina Rubicon can offer Playa Blanca has reverted primarily back to a commercial port for the Fuerteventura ferries, tourist boats and the local fishing fleet. Tourism still plays an important part to the local economy and there are plenty of cafes and bars. A new 7km promenade has been created from Playa Blanca towards Punta Papagayo. The marina offers good shelter but the wash from the ferries can be annoying. Most marinas in the Canary Isands are just a day sail away.
The two regular ferries from Playa Blanca, Fred Olsen and Armas, operate to nearby Fuerteventura which is just a 30 minute journey and inexpensive. Other Canary Island Marinas can be found on World Marine Guide

The concept of "Super Yacht Support Ships" has been taken to a new level with a 58 metre helicopter support yacht "Independence". The vessel will be operated by up to14 crew and also have accommodation for up to 20 additional staff/crew on call for the mother yacht. Independence will be able to provide high technical maintenance facilities for an Augusta Grande 109 helicopter, as well as extra storage and tankage.
The support yacht will also be capable of carrying tenders and and other craft and a dive support centre. The vessel has a beam of 9.2 metres with the helipad able to extend wider. The hanger extends aft to provide protection for the helicopter. Independence can achieve speeds of up to 18 knots with its waterjet booster and an economic transatlantic speed of 14 knots.
The support yacht concept means that the mother ship can be completely independant of using Marinas.

The Queen is to officially name Cunards new £400m Queen Elizabeth cruise liner in Southampton on 11th October 2010 before the ship sails on its maiden voyage, to the Canary Islands, the next day. The Queen Elizabeth's maiden voyage is a 13-night cruise to the Canaries, with fares ranging from £1,489 to £15,799 per person.
The Queen will attend the ceremony in Southampton on 11 October, The QE is seen as the successor to the QE2 which ended its life as an ocean liner in 2008 and was sold to Dubai-based property developers Nakheel. The new ship means that Cunard's fleet will again have three Queens, along with the Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria.
The Queen named the QE2 on the Clyde in 1967 and was at Southampton in 2004 to name the Queen Mary 2. Her Majesty was also present in 1938 when her mother, then Queen Elizabeth, launched the first Queen Elizabeth liner, also on the Clyde.
Peter Shanks, Cunard president and managing director, said: "We are both honoured and proud that Her Majesty will name our new liner Queen Elizabeth."
The 90,000-tonne vessel has been built at the Fincantieri shipyard near Trieste in Italy.
Queen Elizabeth - or just QE as the ship is already being called - is one foot longer and one foot wider than the QE2. But with 16 decks, it is much taller, view the BBC news clip of the new ship.

Divers have discovered and have begun salvaging bottles of what could be the world's oldest champagne from a shipwreck off the coast of Finland near the Aland Islands
It was found in almost perfect conditions for champagne at a near constant temperature of four degrees centigrade, and out of direct sunlight. It was discovered in July and found to be drinkable! If a bottle is sent to World Marine Guide we would be happy to authenticate this claim
According to the BBC, the champagne was heading for Russian imperial court when the ship sank and if it is proven that the bottles were produced before 1825, it would be considered the world's oldest champagne and could make over £40,000 per bottle at auction.
