Canary Island Marina, Pasito Blanco, Gran Canaria

by nick 30. September 2010 19:09

Pasito Blanco marina is a rather isolated marina for the tourist resort of Maspalomas which is about 3km away. Although there is some residential development around the harbour, facilities are few. The marina is run by El Club de Yates de Pasito Blanco and is a private concern. Visiting yachts are made welcome though. Because of the excellent security this would be a good place to leave a yacht unattended for long periods.

If contemplating a long stay here a hire car would be essential, though there is a frequent bus service, every half hour, which runs along the coast of Gran Canaria to the larger neighbouring villages and towns. Cars are not allowed into the village unless possessing a pass.

There is a small but good supermarket close to the marina but for anything else not stocked here it would be necessary to make a trip into Maspalomas. Yacht charter can be in Puerto Rico and chartering a yacht to sail around the island is a popular holiday.

by nick 30. September 2010 18:57

Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina in 4th berth sale of 2010

Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina announces its four berth sale this year,

a 25 year license of a 60 meter superyacht berth.

The sale was concluded with the assistance of Inwards Marine Ltd.

Danny Donelan C&N Regional Sales Manager said ‘Knowledgeable owners are recognizing the advantages of Grenada and Port Louis as a sound long term solution to their homeport needs.  We already have a first with Port Louis Marina located south of ‘the hurricane belt’, which, combined with the wonderful cruising grounds make us a great choice when compared to ‘old hat’ Caribbean marinas’

Glynn Thomas General Manager at Port Louis Marina said ‘Grenada has a deserved reputation as a safe and friendly island. We’ve brought to Grenada Camper & Nicholsons facility and service standards so yachtsmen can now have the best of all worlds. Our goal is now to make sure that everything a major charter superyacht needs by way of support and services can be sourced reliably, in good time, and to the needed standards. In short we want to make Port Louis Marina the preferred charter base for superyachts in the Southern Caribbean’

The Owner, from Monaco,  said  ‘I wanted to ensure I had an effective long term solution to my yacht’s berthing needs. When I compared the alternatives I found that Grenada offered many advantages, I felt confident C&N would continue to deliver the service standards I expect, and the berth pricing offers great value’

More Plans Unveiled For New Marina In Limassol, Cyprus.

by nick 29. September 2010 17:02

Cypriot president Demetris Christofias unveiled plans for one of the island’s biggest-ever investment projects this week … a new £350 million waterfront marina development in Limassol.

Designed to encourage yachting enthusiasts to think of Limassol as a central Mediterranean destination port, the marina will accommodate all types of vessels from sailing yachts to mega-yachts.

Work is already underway and Limassol Marina will have a capacity of 650 berths, accommodating vessels from 8-100m, accessible electricity, fresh water, IPTV, high-speed wireless internet and phone lines. A dry dock is included in the plans, for light repairs, and maintenance. These, along with refuelling and waste-removal facilities, and year-round 24hour security, allow Limassol Marina Ltd expect yachting experts to begin flooding in by the end of 2012, when the Marina is due to be completed, to test out the marina’s facilities.

According to president Christofias “the project will create jobs, enrich our tourism and reposition Cyprus as a premium yachting destination. The world tourism environment is particularly competitive and only destinations that invest in their product will stand the test of time.”

To promote the appeal of the marina, new luxury apartments and penthouses are planned along with swimming pools, a new school and car park for 700 vehicles.

Puerto del Rosario Marina, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain

by nick 28. September 2010 17:18

Puerto del Rosario(Port of the Rosary) is the capital and main port of Fuerteventura  , which was formerly known as Puerto de Cabras (Port of Goats) in the Canary islands. The city is the commercial centre of the island but tourism is beginning to take off with the expansion of the port allowing it to accept some of the largest passenger ships. The city itself is also undergoing a large expansion programme which includes both new residential and commercial buildings and the infrastructure to support it.

The marina is mainly for local boats with little space for visitors but there are plans to extend the marina to accomodate 600 yachts.

40 Metre Catamaran To Be Built By Sunreef Yachts

by nick 28. September 2010 16:59

Sunreef Yachts has acquired the exclusive rights to market and build the design for a 40m powered catamaran that was revealed earlier this year by Design Unlimited and naval architect BMT Nigel Gee. When built, the 40m powered catamaran superyacht will be the largest in the world designed and constructed entirely for private recreational use.

Based in Gdansk, Poland, Sunreef Yachts is the leading builder of luxury catamarans. Sunreef Yachts extensive range includes the sailing catamaran Sunreef 150 superyacht which at 46‐metres overall makes it also the largest in its class. Sunreef Yachts has build over 50 yachts in the ten years since its founding and earlier this month showed its first Sunreef 102 (31‐metre) Double Deck IPHARRA catamaran at the 2010 Cannes International Boat Show

The new 40m Sunreef Power Superyacht will have accommodation laid out across three decks and includes four double cabins as well as the full‐width owner’s suite. The Design Unlimited / BMT Nigel Gee 40m motor catamaran has a beam of nearly twelve metres. The saloon and exterior decks offer space for relaxation and entertainment that conventional yachts of this length can only dream of, while a range of engine options can provide speeds of up to 40 knots and over 2,000 nm between fuel stops. The Sunreef 40m powered catamaran will have a draft of just 1.9 metres enabling her to access shallow marinas and anchorages.

Fort Lauderdale Debut for Superyacht Cakewalk

by nick 25. September 2010 16:28

The Largest yacht to be built in the United States since the 1930's will make a debut appearance at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show next month. The 85 metre long yacht cost 82 million Dollars to build for the Denver private equity investor Charles Gallagher.

The yachts exterior styling is by Tim Heywood and the interior design by Liz Dalton of Dalton Designs along with close collaboration with Cakewalk’s owners. “The client requested a yacht that was not too aggressively modern but a boat that would be a milestone in good taste,” says Tim Heywood.

Launched from US shipyard Derecktor this year, Cakewalk will be available for luxury charters for five to ten weeks a year in the Mediterranean, through Florida-based yacht management firm Yacht Logistics. She will be kept for the owners' own use for the rest of the year.

Isla Graciosa Marina, Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain

by nick 25. September 2010 12:25

Graciosa lies about ½ NM off the northwest coast of Lanzarote across the Estrecho del Rio and is approximately 6.5km long and 3km wide. The island is flat and sandy with four low volcanic cones. It is part of the Chinijo group that comprises of islands Montana Clara and Alegranza, and the islets of Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste.

The whole island is a nature reserve and so far unaffected by tourism or development. There are no iron roads and just a few sandy streets. Caleta del Sabo is where most of the population live and a few shops and restaurants can be found here. This is also the islands only harbour with its marina which has recently been improved with the addition of several new pontoons and reinforcing the breakwaters. More Canary Island marinas can be found on World Marine Guide

The Canarian island was mostly uninhabited until the turn of the 19th century, except for a few pirates, and there are many stories of buried treasure on the island, maybe for this reason it is said to be the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's "Treasure Island". Today there are about 600 inhabitants with the main industry being fishing.
