The concept of "Super Yacht Support Ships" has been taken to a new level with a 58 metre helicopter support yacht "Independence". The vessel will be operated by up to14 crew and also have accommodation for up to 20 additional staff/crew on call for the mother yacht. Independence will be able to provide high technical maintenance facilities for an Augusta Grande 109 helicopter, as well as extra storage and tankage.
The support yacht will also be capable of carrying tenders and and other craft and a dive support centre. The vessel has a beam of 9.2 metres with the helipad able to extend wider. The hanger extends aft to provide protection for the helicopter. Independence can achieve speeds of up to 18 knots with its waterjet booster and an economic transatlantic speed of 14 knots.
The support yacht concept means that the mother ship can be completely independant of using Marinas.
