World Marine Guide has added the south coast of the United States to its growing list of locations in our marina guide. Covering the coast from the southern tip of Florida along to Louisiana into Texas and down to the Mexican border we are now actively looking for marinas to be submitted for inclusion to this part of our marina guide.
The Gulf of Mexico offers the chance of fantastic sailing though, at this present time, the BP oil rig disaster and the oils effect on the coast and the marine industry are foremost in peoples minds. If you have a story or advice about the oils effects please send it to us to be used in this blog.
If you want to include your marina in our guide or advertise your nautical business along this coast for free contact Nick Hamer, nick@worldmarineguide.com

World Marine Guide announced the Liverpool Boat show back in January and now the new leader of Liverpool City Council has thrown his support behind plans for the Liverpool Boat Show which will be in the historic surroundings of Albert, Salthouse and Canning Docks
Councillor Joe Anderson, whose Labour group swept to power in Liverpool in the May poll, said the show would be an essential date on the city’s events calendar for years to come.
Councillor Anderson said: “We are extremely excited about the show. I will ensure the event’s organisers get every possible support from the city and we will be working hard so that all the public sector agencies in Liverpool pull together to produce a spectacle that stands comparison with the very best boat shows in the world. Liverpool’s maritime heritage is such that we know there will be massive public backing for the Liverpool Boat Show. It’s a show which is here to stay.”
The show will run from the 29th April to the 8th May and the organisers believe that they can attract around 400,000 visitors. Round the world yachtsman Sir Robin Knox Johnson, chairman of the shows committee says the aim is to use the historical setting to produce one of the most spectacular events in Europe.
Funding for the event from the European Union has been confirmed and more information can be found at www.liverpoolboatshow.co.uk . If your thinking of visiting the show by boat check out the marina details at Liverpool.

Armed Italian police boarded the 207-foot Force Blue near Genoa and impounded the boat, claiming the owner, Flavio Briatore, owes millions of dollars in unpaid taxes. At issue is Italy’s tax treatment for chartered vessels. If a boat is a charter vessel–privately owned but occasionally rented out to others–it can register as commercial boat and doesn’t have to pay the 19% value-added tax, or VAT, on fuel, wine and many kinds of food. Italian customs officials say Mr. Briatore has been claiming commercial status for the boat to avoid taxes, but, they say, Mr. Briatore uses the boat mostly himself.
Strange then that if you use the following link you can charter the yacht through CharterWorld.com
Fraser Yachts, which manages Force Blue said “As far as we are able to ascertain, this issue appears to have arisen as a result of regulations which can appear confusing and inconsistent rather than through any wrong-doing by the owner".
Italian customs officials say Mr. Briatore–the flamboyant sports tycoon known for his super-model-packed yacht parties and Formula One racing teams–has been claiming commercial status for the boat to avoid taxes. But, they say, Mr. Briatore uses the boat mostly himself.
